DIY Home Office Organization Ideas

Unless you recently had a professional organizer tackle your home, your office might be in a bit of disarray. Reducing your desktop chaos can help to clear your mind, keep you calm and enhance productivity. Here are some easy organization ideas that you can implement in no time.
Reuse containers for storage. Place pens in a washed and de-labeled jelly jar, store paper clips in an empty tea canister or reuse your mason jars for dry erase markers. Use anything that is glass or metal, and it will hold up over time. Make sure to wash the containers out and then use them to organize items like your office supplies.
Make your own drawer dividers. Reuse an empty cardboard box, such as a cereal box. Cut strips between two- and three-inches wide. Fold them every four inches or so to make a square. Tape and cover the sides with printed cardstock or duct tape. Put these in your pull-out drawers to keep items such as rubber bands and pushpins in separate sections.
Repurpose furniture to make a desk. If you are using a desk without any storage, it's time to upgrade. Head to Community Aid or another thrift store to find bookshelves, dressers or filing cabinets that are about the same height. Use these as the stands for your desk. Consider an old door that you could probably purchase at the Harrisburg Habitat ReStore to use as your writing and computer surface. Sand these items and stain or paint them to match your home decor.
Take everything off your desk. Space always feels calmer when it is free from clutter. Place your reused containers full of supplies on floating shelves or a separate bookcase. Having your area clean and tidy will get you more excited about accomplishing your next project.
Move one thing in and take one thing out. For everything you bring into your workspace, plan to remove something out of it. If you have new work samples, see if you can get rid of some older ones. If you purchase new pens, get rid of those that do not work so well anymore. This plan will help keep your office space from getting overwhelmed with too many things.
Need some extra cash flow to help with your office organization? Using a Home Equity Loan to complete projects can be a great financial decision. Since they offer lower interest rates than most credit cards, they allow you to use the money now and pay it back later. With loan rates still near historic lows, we can help you borrow from your home's value. Contact a friendly member of our faM1ly to learn more.
